Hyderabad: Ramannakunta Lake revival works restart in Bowenpally
It is for the first time that the State government has sanctioned funds for development works at SCB and the credit for this goes to K Pandu Yadav, SCB ward member-6
Bowenpally: Renovation of Ramannakunta lake here is finally going to get off the ground, as the long-pending works of laying sewerage pipeline have started again. The works were halted due to the non-availability of funds.
A two foot deep underground pipeline is being laid beside the lake to divert sewage water from entering the lake due to which residents were facing inconvenience.
Almost 50 per cent of works has been completed last year with an amount of Rs 1 crore but due to shortage of funds, the remaining works were stopped.
The seven-acre lake is fully covered by water hyacinth and during monsoon water overflows onto the streets and nearby houses. Once the sewage pipeline is laid, the 500 residents around the lake can breathe fresh air free and there would be a considerable reduction in mosquito population.
Speaking to THI, K Pandu Yadav, SCB ward member-6, said, "For restoring the lake, I struggled hard for the past five years to start this construction work as it is my dream project. For the very first time, the State government has sanctioned funds for this project. Earlier, the development works in Cantonment areas received funds from the Centre. The project is being carried out by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB). The total estimated cost sanctioned for this is Rs 3.5 crore. While the State government's share is Rs 2.5 crore, the Center had already contributed Rs 1 crore."
At present they are concentrating on laying the pipeline and it would take more than six months to complete the work. The pipeline is being laid from the Old Bowenpally,which is under GHMC limits, connecting Bapuji Nagar and Ramannakunta. The sewage water would be diverted to the open nala located near Philips godown at Bowenpally.
"After the pipeline works, we would free the lake from water hyacinth. During monsoon the lake will be filled with fresh water without any sewage contamination," added Pandu Yadav.
