Hyderabad: Storm water drain works completed

The remodelling of storm water drain from Barlakunta to Khajaguda Cheruvu has borne fruit as there is no flowing in the area
Hyderabad: In the 2017 monsoon several areas in the city were badly affected. A few low-lying areas in Khajaguda and Jubilee Enclave faced the brunt. The remodelling of storm water drain from Barlakunta to Khajaguda Cheruvu has borne fruit as there is no flowing in the area.
In the past, just a 12 cm rainfall was enough for the whole Cyber Hills area to get inundated. The remodeling work taken up at the cost of Rs 3 lakh is paying dividend. Earlier the roads were submerged in the flood waters for a depth of about 1 to 1.2m for a day due to insufficient carrying capacity of the existing drain the discharge of which was flowing through a 900mm dia pipe drain.
Situation improves
The existing drain was improved duly constructing a twin cell RCC box drain of size 3m x 2.3m each, thereby enhancing the discharge carrying capacity of the drain to 20 times the drain which was existing earlier. As a result of this, the cyber hills colony has now completely come out of the chronic problem of inundation during the monsoon.
Similarly, 80' road in jubilee enclave area got submerged in the flood waters for a depth of about 0.3 to 0.5m for a full day. This has happened due to the insufficient carrying capacity of the existing drain the discharge of which was flowing through a masonry drain of size 1m x 1m. Works were taken up at Rs 410 lakh.
After construction
The existing drain was improved duly constructing a twin cell RCC box drain of size 4m x 2.3m each, thereby enhancing the discharge carrying capacity of the drain to 18 times the drain which was existing earlier. As a result of this, the Jubilee enclave road has now completely come out of the chronic problem of inundation during the monsoon.
