The six-decade-old Telangana secretariat which has been used by both the Telugu states has shut down permanently on Sunday with the officials locking up the entrance gates.

The majority of offices inside secretariat have been shifted to BRK Bhavan and other places. On Friday, the officials were asked not to discharge their duties from secretariat. They also asked to vacate all the departments by Sunday.

The keys of the entrance gates are handed over to the senior officials. If any department needs the keys to shift the remaining furniture, they can obtain it from senior officials after getting permission.

On the other hand, the new ultra-modern secretariat complex will be constructed within two years. Meanwhile, the demolition of the buildings might be commenced after Dasara. The existing secretariat has been serving the state since 1952 during the reign of the then chief minister Burgula Ramakrishna Rao.
