Hyderabad: A heart-rending self-video of a Covid infected victim speaking in his last moments, bidding goodbye to his family from a government hospital bed is going viral in social media, attracting public attention to the plight of patients in government hospitals.
Ravi Kumar, 35, is seen in the video speaking about the medical staff negligence in providing ventilator in the utmost needed moments. Unfortunately, that's what proved to be the real cause of his death.
The victim in his video alleges that the medical staff at the Government Chest Hospital forcibly removed the ventilator even while he was complaining several times that he could not breathe properly. His desperate pleas for ventilator fell on their deaf ears.
A gasping and frightened Ravi Kumar succumbed to the Covid. It moves one to hear him that, "I am unable to breathe. They removed the ventilator. It's been three hours that I asked for ventilator support and they said you had enough. I am feeling that my heart might stop beating, nothing is left in me. I cannot breathe properly. Bye daddy, bye everyone."
The family of Ravi Kumar shared the video with the public, to let the world know the utter negligence of the chest hospital staff in Hyderabad. It also claimed that the staff denied about his Covid infection and refused to conduct tests.
Ravi Kumar was admitted at Chest Hospital in on Covid suspicion on June 24. After two days, the hospital staff handed over his dead body to the family, not providing the cause of death.
Victim's father Venkatesh deplored that,"My son died on June 26. He took Covid test on June 24 but the result was out only on June 27 after my son's death, that he was infected with Coronavirus. He died as he was not put on needed oxygen ventilator and he also sent me a video saying he was not able to breathe at all."
Family performed last rites with 30 other people, thinking he was not infected with Coronavirus. But the Covid test result which came the following day showed him as positive. Now, not only a young man's life was lost due to lack of facilities, but also his family and friends are now at high risk.
Family, friends and netizens alleged that his death was a result of the utter failure of Telangana government and the health ministry of Telangana.
Chest Hospital officials merely claim that the death was due to dysfunction of heart.
