Hyderabad: TS Advocates JAC offers legal aid to activists

Hyderabad: Expressing solidarity with the activists who were booked under different cases for holding 'peaceful' demonstrations against the CAA-NPR-NCR, the TS Advocates JAC on Friday announced that they would extend legal aid to those who were charged under different sections by police.

TS Advocate JAC convener Mohammed Wali-ur-Rahman said that several cases were booked against protesters, even though the methods adopted by activists were non-violent and under the provisions of Constitution. "Following 'Million March' in January, which was organised by TS & AP JAC, the city police booked as many as 27 cases against the organisers and similarly at different locations activists were booked including women for taking part in demonstration. Hence we are announcing that legal aid would be provided till these people are cleared off their cases," he said.

To hold protest today

Rahman also said that the Advocates JAC will be organising a peaceful protest starting from 12:30 pm to 5 pm at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, on Saturday.

Another Advocate, Mohammed Afzaluddin Deccani said the central government must focus on deteriorating economy of country, but Modi government was more focused on politics of divide and rule in the name of religion. While acknowledging the need for Census every 10 years, he said that NPR if implemented should have followed the earlier methodology, as the latest NPR form tries to extract additional information from the Citizen.

While recalling the promise made by the Chief Minister for passing a resolution in the State Assembly, he requested him to at least take up the matter before its too late. Advocates MA Hameed, Syed Shahnawaz, Syed Shafiullah Quadri and others were present.

Women's stir on Sunday

Meanwhile, TS & AP Joint Action Committee (JAC) announced women's protest programme at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park in Lower Tank Bund on Sunday, following the High Court intervention.

Speaking to media persons, JAC Convener Mohammed Mushtaq Malik informed that the protests would be led by Dr Asma Zehra, and Dr Nayyar Farozan and would be attended by Aquila Khamooshi (AIMPLB), Advocate Divya, Advocate Qudsiya several student leaders and women activists.
