Hyderabad : NIMS administration is in a Catch-22 situation after two resident doctors writing final year exams have tested Covid positive on Saturday. Sixty-five medicos from various medical departments are appearing for the PG (broad-specialty) final year exams that commenced on June 1. Theory exams are completed now with practical exams to begin in couple of days.

With two residents testing positive there is uncertainity on further conduct of exams. In the wake of fresh development, steps are being taken up to conduct swab sample test for other final year students, invigilators and other staff who were in close contact with the infected residents.

NIMS Resident Doctors Association president Dr G Srinivas said that the two Covid positive residents have mild symptoms and they are inclined to complete the exam formalities by appearing for the practicals. NIMS administration might have to take required safety measures to go ahead with earlier decided exam schedule.

So far 22 resident doctors and senior doctors tested positive in NIMS. Meawhile, the first infected PG resident from Osmanic Medical College has written a letter to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to intervene and ensure their final year exams, schedule to begin from June 20, are postponed as they are not in a position to write final year exams. Till now 63 PG residents, interns and doctors from Osmania college have tested positive so far. Out of these seven are final year students.
