Chitrapuri Colony: Daily routines of the Chitrapuri Colony residents are hit hard given the growing water crisis in the area. Already, in wake of improper water supply for over four months in the colony, residents are forced to depend on the 5-liter water tins every day. Borewells are also dysfunctional in the area as there is no sufficient groundwater. Residents say their worries have increased manifold as summer has set in.

The welfare association is seized of pestering issues of basic necessities. To get rid of water scarcity, the welfare association has established a water plant with a 2,000-liter capacity by spending around Rs 3,00,000. It actively follows up on the pending issues. The LIG & EWS Owners Residents Welfare Association also conducts weekly programmers like association meeting, clean and green activities and eco-friendly promotions.

"Water crisis in Chitrapuri Colony is gradually increasing day by day since four months this water scarcity is affecting our daily routines badly. We have submitted numerous complaints to the concerned HMWSSB officials but there is no action has been taken. We seriously demand regular water supply or at least an alternative to it. If the water tankers are provided in regular basis, it would help us in worst scenario," said G Shiva Prasad, President, LIG & EWS Owners Residents Welfare Association.

"After water, we are worst affected in terms of transportation. We had a bus stop nearby the entrance of the colony but it has been removed in the past claiming there was no footfall of passengers in the buses in the colony. But now we have around 500 families residing in the Lower Income Groups blocks and Economically Weaker section Blocks. If the TSRTC could provide us buses for two trips once in the morning and once in the evening, it would help students and employees travelling from Lingampally to Mehadipatnam," said S Srinivasa Rao, Vice President, and LIG & EWS Owners Residents Welfare Association.

"If you want to live in Chitrapuri Colony, one must own a vehicle. If not, transportation is hard as there is no public transport connectivity. Though it is called a colony, situations are worse than those in villages. We don't have proper water supply, proper transportation and more over we have to live with fear of strays and bats in the cellars," said J Krishna, Artist and resident of the Chitrapuri Colony.

"We also away from a basic government institutions like schools, colleges and Hospitals. We have to rush a minimum of 2.5 to 3 kilometers to find a basic medical treatment in emergency. If government could provide a primary health center and a model school nearby would benefit around 7000 colony residents," said H Girish, Organising Secretary, LIG & EWS Owners Residents Welfare Association.

Colony need a basic surveillance, In the whole Chitrapuri Colony with 10,000 families, there is no security and camera surveillance. There were a few cameras at the beginning but there is no camera in the colony at present, informed B Sujatha, an MBA student and resident of the colony.

"Chitrapuri Colony is an old colony and has been witnessing development activities slowly. We are trying to solve the issues one by one. Their demands will be met shortly and the water supply shortage will be controlled once the pipelines are laid," said C Vasanth, ward councillor, Ward 2, Manikonda.
