Warangal: The Warangal Rural district administration has come to the rescue of an octogenarian, who is taking shelter on the premises of Konapuram gram panchayat after being abandoned by her kin.

Induri Rajyalakshmi had been with her nephew Banda Rajamouli for about 10 years after the death of her husband.

Following family problems, she has been living with her niece S Ranamma at Kuntapalli village under Sangem mandal for the last couple of years.

Against this backdrop, Ranamma, who wanted to get rid of Rajyalakshmi, left her at Konapuram gram panchayat office a few days ago.

According to Rajyalakshmi, both her nephew and niece, who promised to look after her wellbeing, had deceived her after enjoying her property.

Seeking justice, she lodged a complaint against her nephew and niece with the Chennaraopet police.

Warangal Rural District Welfare Officer (DWO) M Sabitha got wind of the news and met Rajyalakshmi and assured of help on the directions of Collector M Haritha.

Despite the interference of police and village elders, Rajamouli and Ranamma refused to take care of Rajyalakshmi.

With standoff continuing, the villagers came forward to offer shelter to the ole woman for four days.

DWO M Sabitha assured Rajyalakshmi of providing shelter if her kin continue to be stubborn.

Meanwhile, the Collector directed the RDO to book a case under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 against Rajamouli and Ranamma if they fail to come to an understanding to take care of Rajyalakshmi.

DCO G Mahender Reddy, ICDS supervisor V Shyamala Devi and PO D Raju were present with the DWO.
