Jagadish asks officials to increase forest cover in Suryapet district

Suryapet: Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy expressed his concern over low forest cover in Suryapet district. The minister conducted a special meeting with district officials and village secretaries on green drive.

Addressing the meeting, he said officials have to play key role in making Suryapet a model district by making it ODF, clean and green district with huge plantation drive under Haritha Haram programme.

He said that Suryapet is lagging behind in forest coverage in erstwhile Nalgonda district. He informed that the district is spread in 12,000 hectares has only 2.4 per cent forest area against recommended 33 per cent reservation for greenery. He directed officials and village secretaries to pay special attention on Haritha Haram to improve the position of district in forest coverage.

Quoting the former president late Abdul Kalam's warning on poor forest coverage in the country and its consequences by year 2070, he urged the people of the district to plant saplings in their residences and at bunds of fields to improve the green coverage for ecological balance and to get sufficient rains and to control increasing temperatures year by year.

Stating that Suryapet is the first district which started buying water from water plants for drinking purpose in the State, he warned if plantation of saplings is not carried out as a movement, people of Suryapet district will have to buy oxygen in future

Jagadish Reddy directed officials to pay special attention to make Suryapet as ODF district. In this programme district Collector Amoy Kumar, ZP chairman Gujja Deepika, MLAs Gadari Kishore Kumar, Bollam Mallaiah Yadav, ZP Vice Chairman Venkatnaryana Goud, DRDO PD Kiran Kumar and others participated.
