JNTU-Hyderabad readies to review exam schedule soon

Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU-H) is all set to review its examination schedule which it had earlier announced to conduct undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma examinations. It may be mentioned here that earlier the university had issued a schedule to conduct end-semester regular and supplementary examinations of undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses in three phases.
However, speaking to The Hans India, a senior official of the university said, "Several representations have been received from different stakeholders expressing fears oVRC PhaniharanVRC Phaniharanf asking the students to give examinations during the current crisis."
Because, most of the colleges are located in places like Nacharam, LB Nagar, Moinabad, Gandipet, Secunderabad and the like falling within the GHMC area where the number of Covid positive cases are found increasing. Tens and thousands of students, particularly, the majority of them are from the first, second and third years of the undergraduate courses have to pass through these hotspots.
That apart, many students of the private engineering, pharmacy and management colleges continue their studies staying in private hostels or in rental accommodations. Several of them had to leave to their native places due to closer of hostels and they are yet to be reopened. Some had to leave following their landlords' asking them to leave for non-payment of rentals.
Against this backdrop, requests are made to the university either to postpone the examinations to a later date. Or, to adopt the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the sources said.
When contacted the JNTU-H, Registrar, Dr A. Govardhan said, the examination schedule has been issued taking into consideration various advisories issued by UGC/AICTE and Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE). Hoping, the situation becomes normal by mid-June.
The university is continuously monitoring and assessing the prevailing situation. Besides, taking stock of the methods of how other universities in the country and abroad are adopting to handle the current situation.
"The university will review the ongoing situation again around June 15 about holding the examinations. Decisions would be taken keeping the safety and well being of students which is the top priority of the university during the current crisis,'' he added.
