Karimnagar: Health Minister Eatala Rajendar ordered the officials concerned to create awareness among the farmers about what type of crops they can grow in their fields and in how many acres, after conducting soil tests so that the farmers can get maximum benefits.

Along with Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar and BC Welfare Minister Gangula Kamalakar, Rajendar held a review meeting with the officials of agriculture department of Karimnagar, Jagtial and Peddapalli districts to design a comprehensive system in agriculture for the coming Kharif season at the Collector's conference hall in Karimnagar on Sunday.

Minister Rajendar said all the lakes and tanks in the district were filled with Godavari water through Kaleshwaram project. Earlier, farmers use to start cultivation after release of water through SRSP and LMD canals, but now without depending on rains, they can cultivate crops, as there is plenty of water with Kaleshwaram project, he said. Karimnagar district will soon become 'Rice Bowl of Telangana', as farmers across the district are cultivating paddy in maximum acres of land, he added.

Minister K Eshwar said that with Kaleshwaram project along with construction of other reservoirs, every region in old Karimnagar district is getting plenty of water. Still there are certain problems in some villages and from AE to DE will take necessary steps to solve these problems and will supply water to every village, he stated. For completing the works successfully, CM KCR sanctioned Rs 100 crore in the first phase. After having discussions with the MLAs concerned, the officials must complete pending works as early as possible, he added.

BC Welfare Minister G Kamalakar said farmers will get maximum benefits along with minimum support price if they cultivate crops that are in demand. 'Farmers are facing huge loss due to sudden and unexpected rains in summer season. If the farmers start cultivating crops two months before the season, then they can prevent the loss due to sudden rains, he suggested.

Last year, farmers cultivated paddy in about 1.96 lakh acres and all godowns were filled with no space to store further. That is why the government has planned to implement controlled method of agriculture system, he informed.

Peddapalli MP Venkatesh, MLCs Bhanu Prasad Rao, Naradasu Lakshman Rao and Jeevan Reddy, ZP chairpersons K Vijaya, P Madhukar and D Vasantha, MLAs R Balakishan, S Ravi Shankar, V Satish Babu, K Chander Patel, D Manohar Reddy, Sanjay Kumar and
