Karimnagar: Telangana Anganwadi Teachers and Helpers Union leader Tekumalla Sammaiah demanded that Anganwadi workers should be recognised as government employees and prompt release of salary arrears raised by the Central government.

The members of the union staged a dharna at the Karimnagar Collectorate on Tuesday.

Later they submitted a memorandum on the issues of Anganwadis to ICDS Project Directors Sarada and Sabita. Sammaiah requested the retirement benefits of Anganwadis to be increased to Rs 5 lakh and asked to increase the pension of anganwadi teacher to Rs 5,000 and that of a helper to Rs 3,000 per month.

Telangana Anganwadi Teachers and Helpers Union leaders Ch Sarada Reddy, Premaltha, CM Rama Devi, Bucchaiah, Surender Reddy, Bhumaiah, D Rajita, A Rajita, K Aruna, N Sujatha, B Vijayam, K Tirumala and others participated in the dharna.
