Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has floated the idea of bringing a comprehensive National Power Policy to ensure quality and uninterrupted power supply to all the sectors.

According to him, out of total captive power generation in the country not even half of it is being utilised. Yet, several parts in the country are living without power and at many places there are frequent power outages.

The Chief Minister asserted that there is a need to get over this situation.

KCR made this observations during the meeting with Power Finance Corporation (PFC) chairman Rajiv Sharma, who toured the State for three days and visited power plants, Kaleswaram project, and made a courtesy call on the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan here on Sunday.

A discussion took place on the power situation in the State and country on the occasion. "At the formation of Telangana State, there was a severe power crisis. Power deficit became a hindrance to the development then.

Within six months, we lifted the power cuts and providing 24-hour uninterrupted quality free power to the farm sector. Industries in Telangana State are working in three shifts. This led to the employment and increase in the State's income," the CM explained.

KCR hailed the PFC for helping the State to set up power plants, revamping the electricity related institutions and the financial aid extended by the corporation. He also thanked PFC chairman for extending financial assistance to the irrigation projects and power plants in the State.

Sharma appreciated KCR for setting up power plants and irrigation projects and complete the works in a record time.

He said he had not seen anywhere that the power plants and irrigation projects mainly Kaleshwaram which was completed in such a short time. He said PFC would take pride in being associated with the Telangana State's development.
