Khammam: Doctors along with nurses and other staff working at Khammam District Government Hospital staged a protest on Friday demanding withdrawal of orders issued terminating the services of a contract doctor.

The services of the doctor TNV Rajeswari, working on contract basis, was terminated following news reports that a sweeper and a security guard handled a couple of patients and administered intravenous injections on the night of June 8, when she was the duty medical officer.

Following the directions from higher authorities, the hospital in-charge superintendent Dr Ramulu Naik issued the orders. Protesting against the move, the leaders of Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGDA), Staff Nurses Association and other associations staged a dharna wearing black ribbons and raising slogans.

The protestors also demanded withdrawal of termination orders of two nurses Zarina Begum and Dhanamma, and another nurse Nagashiromani who was surrendered to the directorate office. TNGOs Association and TGO Association extended solidarity to the protest.

Protestors held talks with the RMO Dr Krupa Ushasree and the superintendent Dr Naik. The protest was called off after the RMO and DRO, R Sirisha, agreed to continue the services of the doctor and nurses until Monday and to take their demands to the notice of the District Collector.

TGDA district president Dr B Srinivas Rao, its secretary Ravi Kumar, TNGOs and TGOs leaders took part in the protest.
