Kodangal: People-friendly police attack the tribal village
Kodangal: In an incident of police excess against the tribals of Poshamma thanda in Kodangal mandal, it is learned that some police constables entered their village in the evening and thrashed with 'lathes' to whomever they came across and injured many people on Tuesday.
Going into the details, it is said that some police constables who were drunk entered the Poshamma thanda and began beating whoever they came across. When people tried to ask them as to why they are beating them, the police constables further got infuriated and beat them black and blue and injured them grievously. They warned the tribals of severe action if anyone dared to complain against them.
Soon after the incident, all those tribals who were injured were shifted to Kodangal government hospital for treatment. Later the tribals took the issue with local MLA Patnam Narender Reddy and sought his help in providing justice to them. "While on one hand the Police department claims to be implementing friendly police, however, here in Kodangal, the police are imposing their own rule and thrashing the poor tribals for reasons known to them. We have lodged a complaint with the local MLA for justice and demanded suspension all those police personnel who were involved in the crime and book cases against them under SC/ST atrocity Act," demanded the tribals who staged a protest at the hospital on Tuesday.
Patnam Narender Reddy, after learning about the incident, visited the hospital and condemned the incident. He later spoke with the top police officials and demanded suspension of those responsible for the attack against the tribals. "It is unfortunate that some police personnel have resorted to such an act. We have lodged a complaint with the higher police officials and will see that all those involved in the incident gets suspended," said the MLA, while terming the incident as unfortunate.
