KTR directs civic body chiefs to take all measures to keep illnesses at bay

Hyderabad: Telangana government is taking up a campaign, 'Every Sunday 10 minutes at 10 am,' from Sunday with an aim avoid the outburst of seasonal diseases by keeping premises clean.

The programme is being planned from Sunday and Municipal Commissioners have been asked to take help of public representatives in taking up the drive in towns. However, the programme would be taken up in the houses in wake of the lockdown situation.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao held a review meeting with the Municipal Commissioners in the state. He called upon the ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives to make sure there is no water stagnation in their houses and be inspiration to others. The minister also gave some suggestions to the officials on monsoon action plan.

He asked them to take steps as per the seasonal disease calendar prepared by the health department. He directed the officials to start the anti-larva activities in towns from Sunday. He also wanted steps on dengue control by taking up anti-dengue activities and start the week-long programme from Sunday. He wanted the officials to make sure the sanitation staff members wear masks and gloves. Officials would be responsible if the workers did not wear gloves or masks.

Complementing the Municipal Commissioners who have been playing important role in controlling the Coronavirus, the minister wanted them to continue their efforts in the same way. In wake of the lockdown getting lifted phase-wise, the commissioners should strictly implement the orders of the government.

They should follow the odd-even system in opening the shops in the towns. "Corona may not be leaving us in near future... we may have to live with it until vaccine is developed. The municipal administration department and the health department would issue guidelines for controlling the spreading of Coronavirus," said KTR.

He asked the officials to ensure measures such as wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, using sanitisers are enforced strictly.
