Hyderabad: Sorry state of affairs are being seen in Osmania General Hospital because of shortage of beds in isolation ward, lack of oxygen lines, monitors to check vitals and lack of enough doctors as some have tested positive while some are in home quarantine.

This is resulting in death of SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) cases shortly after getting admitted in hospital.

While the authorities have now 36 isolation beds, rush of suspected cases for the last few days meant that beds are not sufficient to admit and treat them. Also delayed test results meant patients are made to stay in the isolation ward for more than two days.

Some patients, especially those coming with serious respiratory problems, are even dying before the test results are coming. And this is due to lack of enough oxygen lines.

The rush has increased off late and with one-third staff is on home quarantine and there is not enough manpower to take care of admitted cases. General Medicine HoD is not available as he is reportedly tested positive.

Meanwhile, Osmania authorities have stated that they are taking steps to provide 100 plus beds with oxygen lines on war footing in view of the increased rush. The orthopedic ward is being vacated to arrange beds and oxygen lines as well as some other wards to accommodate patients.

Patients with lung infections, pneumonia, kidney and renal failures are flocking to the hospital in serious condition and some of them are dying just after 30 minutes after reaching here, a doctor said.

A junior doctor, without disclosing his name, shared a post about how doctors are in a helpless condition due to lack of infrastructure, equipment, beds, doctors and medical staff as a result of which some patients are dying in front of their eyes. Even if doctors are wishing to extend any medical treatment lack of facilities is proving to be a big stumbling block.
