Medak: Met forecasts hot summer days

Medak: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the state and city is likely to witness hotter days as compared to last year.

The IMD states that summers this year may have a number of heat wave days with an increase in the probability by 43 per cent as compared to last year and a rise in 0.5 to 1 degree warmer days than the normal. The temperature this year is said to be anywhere between 45 to 46 degree Celsius and average temperature to be around 35 to 37 degree Celsius. Explaining the reason for the scorcher days, Director of Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), Dr K Nagaratna says that the uneven rainfalls received by the State last year may be resulting in warmer days as compared to previous years. "The wind flow direction has changed which may cause warmer days. The wind pattern which mostly flow from north-east side has changed its course and are flowing now from south-east or eastern part of the country bringing in more hot wind from the eastern regions," said Dr K Nagaratna. "The highest temperature recorded in the city was 45.5 degree Celsius on June 2, 1966 this year it may surpass the 54-year-old record for a day or two," she adds further.

Meanwhile, doctors and medical facilities have geared up in case of any outbreak and are advising people to follow proper measures before heading out in the scorching heat. Dr M Goverdhan, General Physician from Care Hospitals, Nampally, says, "Telangana has always witnessed warmer temperature in summers as compared to other states, It is a medical emergency and can be fatal if not promptly and properly treated."

"Infants and children up to age 4, and adults over age 65, are particularly vulnerable because they adjust to heat more slowly than other people," he adds further.
