Groundwater levels fall at alarming rate
Kothagudem: The groundwater levels have been drastically falling in many villages in the district. Of the 23 mandals, over villages in 20 mandals are being hit by drinking water issue.
The district level Groundwater Estimation Committee (GEC) which conducted the study on falling groundwater levels has sent the reports to Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) of Union Ministry of Water Resources.
The GEC, which comprises nine departments including Ground Water, Revenue, Agriculture and others, conducts the study of groundwater levels for every two years and submits the report to CGWB for further action, said Ramesh, Deputy Director of Groundwater Department.
According the officials, the groundwater levels have drastically fallen in 17 villages in the district in the months of April and May. The following are the details.
