Nagarkurnool: The people of Machinenipally village of Kollapur mandal of Nagarkurnool district took a resolution to abolish wine, liquor and other narcotic substances like gutka in their village at a gram sabha held here on Thursday. Later, the villagers took out a rally and created awareness about the ill effects of liquor, gutka and other narcotics.
Speaking on the occasion, Kollapur Mandal Parishad President Gadela Sudharani praised the villagers for their resolution to abolish liquor in their village, which spoiled the lives several youngsters and destroyed lakhs of families.
Machinenipally village always stood as a role model for others. The village was the first Swachh village with 100 per cent construction of latrines in every house and first village in Nagarkurnool district to have 100 per cent tap water supply under Mission Bhagiratha.
Village women group members said the youth of the village came forward voluntarily and took the decision to stop liquor consumption totally. Their decision came after they observed that majority of the men again started drinking after the government opened liquor shops after 45 days, which spoiled the peaceful and healthy environment of the village.
