Hyderabad: Navajanardhana Parijatham, an Andhra Natyam, ancient temple dance of Telugu people which was performed in the aramas, temples and courts of Kings by dedicated cultured female artists in Lasya tradition, was presented on Saturday on the eve of International Women's Day by MLA and APIIC chairperson Roja Selavamani and Muvva (T S Subha Rajeswari) in the presence of their Guru Kalakrishna.

The programme was organised by Life and Law Foundation. State Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan who was the chief guest at the event appreciated the performance of Roja and Muvva.

She said, "I like Roja since she too was a fiery woman like me." The Governor said, "I appreciate Kala Krishna who is striving to take the ancient dance form forward.

And it is laudable that the Life and Law Foundation is working towards service to needy, family counselling, women empowerment, Green India programme and now to promote culture," she added

Roja opened the programme with her rendition of a small piece depicting the Radha Krishna saga, where Radha is waiting for Krishna and her joy when finally arrives in Andhra Natyam.

A trained classical dancer, she always harboured a desire to learn this dance form, and in a bid to promote it, she took it upon herself to learn a few aspects and presented it much to the delight of the audience.

Kala Krishna's student and a dancer of great prowess Muvva (TS Subha Rajeswari) was a delight to watch as she gave a spirited performance of the Vinikidi Daruvu, beginning with 'Bhamane Satya Bhamane', a portion of the story where Satyabhama introduces herself and tells the story of her long and legendary plait (jada), and Krishna's love for her.

Speaking on the occasion, Guru Kala Krishna expressed anguish over how Andhra Natyam was being ignored just because of the name and said Perini and Andhra Natyam were two eyes of his Guru and one cannot try to tear him apart his legacy.

The programme was presented by T K Sreedhar, Advocate and Joint Secretary Life and Law Foundation and M Venkateswari, Advocate and General Secretary of the Foundation.
