Hyderabad: Stepping up its ante against the ruling TRS and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit alleged that the State government's decision to construct a new Secretariat and State Assembly is an irresponsible act and misuse of public money.

Addressing media at Delhi, State party chief K Laxman said every Telangana citizen has a debt of Rs 40,000 on their heads. Yet, the Chief Minister wants to demolish the buildings still having 40 or more years of life to construct a new secretariat spending Rs 600 crore.

Everyone should question the need for a new secretariat building. The existing secretariat buildings would last for another 40 years but, the Chief Minister who pushed the State into a debt trap in the last five years will be spending an additional Rs 600 crore for the construction of new secretariat.

"BJP would seriously oppose such irresponsible acts. When party leaders tried to oppose staging protests they were indiscriminately arrested," he pointed out.

Accusing the TRS chief resorting to West Bengal kind of violent politics to suppress the BJP, he said, "we will fight back, and I appeal to all those who participated for separate Telangana to join hands to free the State from the TRS family-rule."

Meanwhile, the BJP MLC N Ramachandra Rao who was arrested by the police to prevent him from staging a protest at the secretariat alleged that the police have identified their location by tracking their mobile phones.

Terming it totally undemocratic, he said the party would continue to fight the anti-people activities of the TRS in the State.

Similarly, the police have also arrested BJP MLA Raja Singh and other leaders.

BJP State official spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao said it would be inappropriate on the part of the State government to spend hundreds of crores on the new building when dilapidate schools and hospital buildings and other welfare schemes are badly in need of funding from the State government.
