The incident that was kept under the wraps for over three weeks has finally come to light on Tuesday after NIT Registrar S Goverdhan Rao, in a communiqué, stated that they have found 12 students guilty of consuming ganja on the campus.

According to details, the security personnel had found traces of ganja in one of the rooms of 1.8K hostel on the intervening night of October 26 and 27 on the campus. A probe initiated by the administration had confirmed that 12 students were in a state of intoxication on that day. Following which, these students had confessed before the Disciplinary Committee admitting that they had consumed small quantities of ganja for the first time.

The Registrar said that no ganja was seized from the hostels or institute premises. He said that they have received a report from the Disciplinary Committee on the issues and an appropriate action would be taken against the students involved in the wrongdoing, shortly.

It is learnt that a decision against the students would be taken only after the arrival of NIT Director N V Ramana Rao who is in US currently. Meanwhile, it was reported that security personnel seized a sizable quantity of ganja from the students.
