Nizamabad Council poll postponed by 45 days

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India postponed the polling for the by-elections for MLC seat in Nizamabad Local Bodies constituency for another 45 days. The Commission has taken the decision following continued lockdown in Telangana.

The by election was supposed to held on March 26 . Due to lockdown, the Commission postponed the election for two months. On Friday, the authorities reviewed the situation mainly to decide the deferment of election for another 45 days.

The officials said that the postponement of by-election was necessitated to avoid public gatherings which will pose health risks.

The bypoll was necessitated following the disqualification of MLC R Bhoopathi Reddy for indulging in anti party activities in January this year.
