DOST notification for degree admissions to be issued on May 9
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) has in principle conceded the demand by private degree colleges in the State for management quota seats even for conventional degree courses like BSc, BCom, BA, BBA etc.
However, a final decision would be taken in consultation with Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy, according to sources.
At present the management quota system exists in professional UG courses (MBBS, BDS, BTech, BE, BPharm etc) in a few professional colleges.
Private colleges are allocating seats for all UG courses for DOST (Degree Online Services Telangana), the online admission process being conducted by TSCHE every year.
However, they want 10 to 20 per cent extra seats under the management quota.
Telangana Private Degree Colleges Association members said they were unable to give admission to students who approached them after failing to get desired admissions in Eamcet counselling.
However, once seat allocation was done on a quota basis through the online process, these colleges are in a helpless situation.
Members explained that management quota would give private colleges an opportunity to allocate seats to such candidates.
College managements stressed that there was no question of enhanced fee collection for conventional degree courses as was the case with management quota seats for professional courses.
There are over 900 private degree colleges across the State.
Seats for various courses in all the government, aided and private degree colleges are being filled through the online admission process.
However, there is a big demand for seats for courses in nearly 200 private colleges in Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam and other district headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Council has declared that Degree Online Services, Telangana, (DOST) notification for admissions into various degree courses will be issued on May 9 while students can register online from May 10 (the next day onwards) till May 27.
The admissions will be made as per the roster system and merit secured by the candidates at the Intermediate or Plus two level.
Registrations for DOST can be done through 76 helpline centres across the State as well as through DOST website.
Sharing details here on Thursday, Prof T Papi Reddy, Chairman, TSCHE and Prof R Limbadri, Vice-Chairman-I, TSCHE and convenor, DOST, stated that special helpline
centres would be set up in the ten erstwhile district headquarters to attend to students' grievances.
