Nalgonda: Superintendent of Police AV Ranganath warned of invoking Preventive Detention Act and slap criminal cases against the traders who sell spurious seeds and cheat innocent farmers in the district.

On Wednesday, along with agriculture officials, he conducted a meeting with seeds and pesticides traders at DPO meeting hall in Nalgonda.

Addressing the traders, he said both police and agriculture officials would work jointly to put a check to fraudulent seed sale in the district and in this connection both the departments would conduct raids on seed and pesticide selling shops after the counting of Parliament polls.

He urged the dealers, seed selling traders and officials of Agriculture department to create awareness among the farmers about spurious seeds and importance of using quality seeds for better yields.

District Agriculture officer G Sridhar Reddy stated that the State government was very serious with regard to selling of fake seeds and in this connection, the department has constituted special teams with officials of other districts and task force. He advised traders not to sale BG-3 cotton seeds banned by the State government. He urged the police department to carry out inspection at checkposts to prevent entry of spurious seeds in the district from neighboring districts of Andhra Pradesh.

In-charge ASP Ramesh, DSPs Ganga Ram, Maheshwar, Srinivas, CIs Shivaram Reddy, Ramana Reddy, RIs Narsimha Chary, YV Pratap, Nalgonda town Pesticide Shops Association president Ako Naryana and others attended the meeting.
