Nagarkurnool: The Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation (PRRLI) project oustees under the Vattem reservoir, after being arrested and foiled their attempt to take out a long padayatra from Bijinepally to Hyderabad two days ago to lay siege to the Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad, have now began the indefinite hunger strike to press the government to meet their demands.

"There are more than 500 people who have lost lands under the PRRLI Vattem Venkatadri Reservoir. While a few farmers have received only half compensation, others have received full and a few are yet to receive the compensation for the valuable land that they lost. The government has paid just Rs 4.5 to Rs. 5.5 lakh to the land losers, which is far less than compared to those farmers paid under the Mallannasagar reservoir. We are asking the government why they are showing partiality towards the farmers of one region to the other? Why the government can't take give the same compensation package to all the famers who have lost land to the projects. We feel, we are subjected to great injustice as we have lost our livelihood because of government projects and the government is paying us peanuts," said an agitating farmer.

They said they will not budge to any kind of threatening and fear inducing tactics of the government. and demanded the government to address the issues at the earliest lest they will intensify the agitation until they get fair compensation for their lost lands.
