Parents want engineering colleges to refund excess fees
Vasavi Engineering College Parents Association (VECPA) and Telangana Parents Association (TPA) demanded that the engineering colleges refund the excess fee collected by them during the block period of 2016-19.
Hyderabad: Vasavi Engineering College Parents Association (VECPA) and Telangana Parents Association (TPA) demanded that the engineering colleges refund the excess fee collected by them during the block period of 2016-19.
The VECPA meeting, presided over by its president S Srinath and attended by TPA State president N Narayana as chief guest, discussed the issues of fee by the engineering colleges and passed a resolution here on Monday.
Accordingly, the parents' associations said the engineering colleges had collected fee in excess of the fee fixed by the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) during the block period of 2016-19.
For this, they demanded that the State government implement the verdict of the Supreme Court and issue orders for refund of excess fee collected.
The parents said the TAFRC fixed Rs 97,000 per year towards the tuition fee for the block period of 2016-19 for Vasavi Engineering College. However, the college had forcefully collected Rs 1,60,000 from the parents.
As per the directions of the Apex Court, the colleges must return the excess fee collected over and above the fee fixed by the TAFRC, they added.
Accordingly, "The college has to refund Rs 63,000 per year collected from each student over and above the TAFRC fixed fee during the said block period," they alleged.
The TPA State president Narayana and Engineering Colleges Parents Joint Action committee (ECPJAC), chairman Srinath said the Supreme Court verdict delivered on July 1, this year is not only limited to the Vasavi and Srinidhi Engineering Colleges but also, all the engineering colleges in the State.
Hence, they asked Srinidhi, CBIT, MGIT and other colleges who have collected fee in excess to what has been fixed by the TAFRC should be returned to the parents.
The meeting has passed a resolution demanding the intervention of the State government and Justice P Swaroop Reddy, Chairman of TAFRC and State Chief Secretary S K Joshi and State Education Secretary D Janardhan Reddy.
