The elections for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) positions held in three phases have been concluded with the last phase held on Tuesday.
Khammam: The elections for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) positions held in three phases have been concluded with the last phase held on Tuesday. All the political parties worked hard to secure their success and campaigned widely all over the district since the day of notification.
Everyone assumed that the election heat will fade after the third phase polling. But, the political parties have started a new game to capture ZP chairman and MPP positions. They have realised that these positions hold a lot of power at rural level and securing those positions will strengthen their party cadre in ground level.
The election was held for 20 ZPTC and 289 MPTC positions in the district. It is to be noted that the Khammam Zilla Parishad chairman post is reserved for SC general. Out of the 20 ZPTC seats, the Madhira and Bonakal mandal ZPTC seats are going to be crucial for all the parties in Khammam district as both are reserved for SC general category. It is also important for the parties to secure majority of ZPTCs in order to succeed in capturing ZP chairman position.
As the polling is already done and the results will be announced soon, the parties are now concentrating on holding on to their ZPTCs by maintaining camps along with efforts to lure ZPTCs from other parties and independent candidates. With a fair idea on who will succeed in the elections, the parties are moving pawns to hold as many ZPTC candidates as possible, who might potentially succeed after the announcement of results.
