Bodhan: District Collector C Narayana Reddy told the officials concerned to prepare sanitation plan for villages and to implement under the aegis of panchayat secretary.

He participated at an awareness meeting organised by Panchayat Secretaries, MPOs and APOs on Haritha Haram and income expenditure and preparation of gram panchayat sanitation plan, at Ravi Garden Function Hall in Bodhan on Monday.

Collector Narayana Reddy said panchayat secretary should supervise the development of villages, else they would be held responsible for lack of quality standards. Stating that after districts reorganisation, geographical area of district and village panchayat has become less and the government has provided all facilities, resources, personnel and powers to villages, he directed the secretaries to live in villages and to carry out sanitation works every day. If villages are clean, villagers will be healthy, he added.

The Collector stated that it is the duty of panchayat secretary to ensure that drainages should be cleaned daily, roads should be swept every day. He also ordered them to upload photos of the work done every day. The 10-member team, comprising of District Collector, additional collectors, RDOs, DFO, ZP CEO and DCO, will conduct sudden inspections in the villages from June 27.

Narayana Reddy told the sanitation staff to ask people to separate wet and dry garbage and move it to the dumping yard and segregate the trash. Warning that the movements of panchayat secretaries are being monitored by a special App, he warned that action will be taken against panchayat secretaries if they neglect their duty.

The Collector directed the sarpanches to select place for constructing burial ground and dumping yard in every village and warned of taking action if the said works are not completed by June 30.

As part of Haritha Haram, saplings should be planted on both sides of roads, offices and houses in village. He said that a watch guard will be appointed for every 400 saplings under the NREGA scheme, hence he suggested to plant at least 2,000 saplings so that five people would get jobs for three years.
