Karimnagar: Health Minister T Harish Rao said that quality medical services should be provided to the people in government hospitals.

The Minister inaugurated a 50-bed Matha Shishu Care Centre constructed at cost of Rs 7 crore in Manthani and held a review with the officials concerned along with Welfare Minister K Eshwar and the district Collector Dr Santheega Satyanarayana on Tuesday.

The Collector said that as a result of measures taken to reduce caesarean operations in Peddapalli district, the number of caesareans has decreased from 98 to 90 per cent in private hospitals, 77 to 67 per cent in government hospitals.

The Minister directed the officials to work towards 80 percent delivery in government hospitals by July and to follow up on cases of pregnancy in the field with coordination with Ashas and ANMs.

The Minister said an incentive of Rs 3,000 would also be provided to general obstetricians, ANM and Asha staff in government hospitals. He directed the officials to keep a watch on the private hospitals in the district and conduct a strict audit of every caesarean operation.

Harish Rao directed the Collector to refer the names of those performing unnecessary caesarean operations in private hospitals to the State Medical Council and action would be taken against them.

Harish Rao enquired about the NCD screening taking place in the district and said that 75% of those above 30 years of age have completed the test.

The Minister directed that 100% NCD screening should be completed by the end of June and that about 34,000 people in the district were currently diagnosed with BP and 14,000 with diabetes and the NCD medicine kits to be distributed to the districts soon should be provided to the patients by Asha activists.

The Minister suggested that corona vaccination should be given to children aged 12-14 years in the wake of the commencement of schools. The minister directed the higher authorities to provide additional gynecologists, other doctors and staff as three new hospitals became available in the district.
