Rein Bazar: Restive residents force officials to pay heed

Rein Bazar: As officials continue their difference to their plight and resolving civic issues, the residents of Rein Bazar division could not take it any longer and they en-masse descended on the civic body on Wednesday. The act prompted the officials to visit the trouble spots and take contractor to task. The locals of Rein Bazar division led by social worker Abdul Rahman congregated at the office of GHMC deputy engineer Eakambaram in large numbers. They also gave representation about the pending civic issues in their areas and had a long discussion about problem faced by them daily, in their locality.
According to the residents, they resorted to this kind of representation after concerned officials failed to listened to their grievances, regarding major civic issues in Rein Bazar division and decided to approach Corporation's higher officials. "We met the official at his office and gave representation regarding the pending civic issues in area and had a long discussion about problem faced by them in area," informed Abdul Rahman.
During discussion with DE, the locals brought to notice about the major pending works in area, which includes demand for laying of new CC Road in Sadat Nagar, following upgrading of pipeline. According to Abdul Rahman, the pipeline works were sanctioned more than 6 months back with an amount of Rs 17 lakh, which also includes laying of CC roads after completion of works. The works of pipeline laying were completed a few months back, but the road was not relaid, which was posing threat to locals. "Owing to this damaged road several commuters slipped and injured after falling from their two-wheelers," he added. Each time locals faced problems they formally made complaints to the officials, but their regular pleas went unheard. As such, they grew restive and decided to approach higher official and met GHMC DE.
Abdul Rahman said that after the long discussion, the DE visited the site along with contractor and conducted a survey and instructed the contractor to start the works and finish as earliest. Later, he assured the residents that the works would be started within 2 days and will be completed as early as possible.
