Hanamkonda: Demanding resolution of issues pertaining to education, the ABVP activists staged a road blockade near Adalath Centre here on Tuesday. Speaking at the protest, ABVP State Joint Secretary Punnam Venu said that with the State government turning a blind eye to the problems faced by the students, the standard of the education has come down drastically. The state of affairs in which the education department is in is alarming, he added.

"With the State government failing to provide adequate funds for the education, students have been facing immense problems," Venu said, referring to the pending fee reimbursement and the scholarships to the tune of nearly Rs 3,500 crore.

He demanded the government to fill vacant 5,074 junior lecturers, 1,350 degree college lecturers, 542 MEOs, 28 DEOs and 1,796 university faculty posts. He also demanded the government to implement midday meal plan for the Intermediate students with immediate effect. Referring to the semester system in degree courses, he urged the government to revert to year-wise system.

"Students are facing quite a few problems due to shortcomings in the semester system. Even though we have represented it to the authorities, there was no action to set it right," Venu said. The ABVP to launch an agitation if the government continues to ignore the students' problems, he added. The police dispersed the students and cleared the traffic.
