Secunderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is laying new borewells and simultaneously repairing old borewells to fulfil the need for water in the localities. As per recent records, Cantonment Board has approximately 60-65 borewells in eight wards.

Community borewells are laid by using MLA and MP funds (3.5 lakhs on an average for each) for meeting the needs of water demand during the summer in the Cantonment area.

Sravan Kumar, Assistant Engineer (E&M), Water and Street light department of SCB, said that recently two new community borewells were constructed at PNT colony and Jaya Nagar and it was sanctioned under the MP funds. He also said that about 40-50 representations for borewell repairing have been attended and still about 8-10 applications are pending which will be soon resolved. The Assistant Engineer also said that they have planned to construct more borewells in coming months and they have sent a representation to the State government seeking more funds.

Procedure for borewell construction

For individual borewell- the applicant should apply for new construction of borewell to the Mandal Revenue Office (MRO) along with few attachments like sanction plan and requisite fee and then the officials will examine the land to check the accessibility of the land for the available of the ground water.

Then the application is handed over to the Groundwater Department and they examine the topology of the soil. Then they send back the application to Mandal Revenue Office. Finally, the application is forwarded to the water department in SCB for the further process.

Once all the procedures are complete, then within 10-15 days permission for constructing the borewell is granted if all the documents are proper and there is no issue with the land.

For community Borewell – It has to be considered and approved in the board meeting and based on the fund sanctioned by the MP/MLA and once the water department receives the installment amount then the work begins.
