MoD orders to open SCB roads remain unheeded

Highlights

For over 2 yrs, people suffering hardships as 21 roads closed to them

Secunderabad: Commuters who need to pass through Trimulgherry are silently sufferring and are forced to take long detour, as most of the connecting roads to the place remain inaccessible in the Cantonment area. Even those which are available are battered and remain accident-prone.

Residents of SCB are still harried over the 21 road closures issue. Adding to their travails, the remaining roads have not been re-carpeted and left in a dire state, to be riddled with potholes. Absence of street lighting is only compounding matters. Especially, the entire stretch of Tirumalgherry to RK Puram main road lacks streetlights and Harmony X Road to Gough Road is not only bad but also plunges into dark in evenings.

"Out of 25 roads 21 roads are closed in SCB areas. The roads that are open to public are in a bad shape. The entire Tirumalgherry stretch is in a very critical condition. Many accidents are often reported from this area. Due to the closure of Lakdawala Gate, we are forced to take long routes. Remaining roads that are used by the public should at least be re-carpeted immediately. Officials should also ensure proper lighting. SCB never takes up such pressing issues, leaving people to their fate," deplores Venkata Ramana, a resident of Tirumalgherry.

"Roads in Cantonment are riddled with potholes, some even knee-deep. Their condition has only gone from bad to worse and they also do not have proper lighting. It is tough to drive or walk on the stretch. Regarding the road closure issues, we submitted several representations to re-open the roads, but in vain. In spite of the Ministry of Defence instructions to keep the roads open in 2018, the orders are not followed," said CS Chandra Shekar, Secretary, Federation of North Eastren Colonies of Secunderabad.
