Secunderabad: The Sikhs in the city never lose any opportunity to make their presence felt whether it is in reaching out to society in times of hardship through community service or when they mark the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikh Religion.
Prakash Utsav as they prefer to call the 551st birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev, devotees thronged gurudwaras in the city. A large number of devotees participated in the 'Vishaal Deewan' by offering prayers to Guru Granth SahIb Ji (Holy Scripture of Sikhs) at Gurudwara Saheb in Secunderabad.
S Baldev Singh Bagga, president, Prabhandak Committee Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad said, "the mass congregation began at Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad this morning continued up to 3 PM and was marked by the recitations of Gurubani Keertans and Kathas (Holy Hymns) by the renowned and reputed Ragi Jathas (Sikh Preachers)."
The preachers exhorted devotees to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev which are relevant in these times. The Guru-Ka-Langar (free community kitchen) is most looked forward to by one and all. Mandeep, a devotee said, "The langar is symbolic of equality where the rich and the poor, the mighty and the weak all sit together and also partake in the work."
