Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner and Hyderabad district election officer Dana Kishore held series of meetings on Monday to discuss election arrangements. On Monday morning, he held meeting with nodal officers who implement elections model code of conduct and this was followed by another meeting in the afternoon with police officers, returning officers and associate returning officers. The meetings were held in view of election notification issued by Election Commission for the Parliament elections on Sunday. Hyderabad CP Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad Collector and Hyderabad Parliament returning officer Manicka Raj, Secunderabad Parliament returning officer Ravi, GHMC Enforcement Director Vishwajith Kampati and other higher officials attended the meetings.

Speaking on the occasion, Dana Kishore said that about 4,000 posters, banners and hoardings were removed in the city and in the next 36 hours the rest of political banners and wall writings would be removed. He said that 42 FST and SST teams were appointed for the stringent implementation of model code of conduct in the city, he said. Special measures are being taken for welfare of police staff who participate in election duties and a special nodal officer would be appointed in this regard, he said.

Dana Kishore instructed the officials to remove photos of all public representatives and calendars displaying leaders' photos from government offices and GHMC websites. He said that first phase training for election staff would be given on March 17 and 18.

Meeting with political leaders

A meeting would also be organised at GHMC main office at 4 pm on Tuesday with representatives of political parties to discuss model code of conduct, election arrangements, election campaign and other related issues, he said.

Check your vote

Dana Kishore appealed to voters to check again if their names are included in the voter list. Voters can make use of 'Check your vote' feature in GHMC mobile app, 'Naa Votu,' designed by the Election Commission, or call up voter helpline 1950 or utilise Vadha app. In case their name is not found in the list, they can reapply using Form-6, he said. Special awareness drives would be organized to increase voting percentage in this election, he said. SMS would be sent to all the residents of the city who pay property tax, he said.
