Siddipet: A 10-day workshop, as part of the special programme for students of Government Degree, Medical and Polytechnic Colleges in the district, was launched here at the Government Girls Polytechnic College, on Thursday.

The theme of workshop is "Gender sensitisation & sexual assault on women at the workplace". P Sailaja, the coordinator of the workshop said that women were now being educated and trying to engage in national development, but there were many sexual harassment incidents in the workplace, hence the Central Government has enacted the POSH (PPR) Act to prevent them.

The resource person of the event, Sunita said the purpose of the workshop was to educate the girls on how to use laws. Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Ramu, DCPO said JJ Act provides four types of rights to children.

He said that from District Collector to the village level, all were working to protect them and call 1098 for help. Sakhi CA Prathima said that the Sakhi Centers were working to assist the victims of violence and provide five days special shelter to helpless orphaned women. Varsha Bhargavi, the trainer said that no matter how many laws were put in place, the percentage of people who use them with a lack of awareness was very low and women can find their rights through such workshops. G Vijay Kumar, Principal of the Polytechnic College, presided over the event. The programme was attended by B Nalini Kumari, faculty and students were present.
