Hyderabad: To ensure the safety of school children the Hyderabad Traffic Police has started a special drive to check the condition of school buses, vans, auto rickshaws carrying school children in entire Hyderabad city from the second week of this month.

The Joint Commissioner of Transport department in association with Hyderabad Traffic Police officers formed special teams. The teams led by Traffic ACP are conducting the special drives daily.

These teams are conducting special drive from 07.30 am to 09.30 am and from 03 pm to 5 pm. Special focus is kept on vehicles without fitness certificates. Licences of drivers are being examined.

Breath analyzer tests are also being held to catch drunken drivers. Other violations they are looking for include overloading, minor driving etc.

These special teams also held meeting with the school managements and drivers of the buses, vans and autos, and also counselled the parents of school children who are carrying extra children on their two-wheelers and explain them about the do's and don'ts for the security and safety of school children.

The Hyderabad traffic police has requested all parents of school children not to send their children in a vehicle carrying more than the seating capacity.

Transporting children in overloaded vehicle is a clear violation of traffic rules as it endangers the lives of children. Hyderabad Traffic Police requests the school managements and parents to check the validity of documents specially driving licences of driver and fitness certificates of vehicles before utilising such vehicles.
