CM makes an in-depth study of pandemic impact

Hyderabad: What exactly is the ground situation regarding the spread of coronavirus? How has it affected the livelihoods of workers following lockdown and what are the prospects of providing employment? This is what Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is trying to find out now so that the government could come up with some packages or relief measures.

The Chief Minister expressing concern over the growing number of cases even in districts is learnt to have asked all party legislators to present a status report on the impact of lockdown on each sector in their respective assembly segments besides the spread of virus. Sources said that the legislators were entrusted the responsibility of studying the employability in each sector mainly education, local manufacturing companies and other unorganised sectors mainly marketing.

The Statistical Department of the government is learnt to have already submitted a detailed report on these issues. In addition, the CM wanted reports from MLA and leaders on job prospects in each mandal. KCR instructed the MLAs to provide employment opportunities to the poor under employment guarantee scheme by issuing job cards.

Those who are not ready to work as daily wage workers under the employment scheme, the Chief Minister wanted to provide jobs to them in other sectors.

"Many workers who lost jobs in unorganised sectors like hospitality and construction in Hyderabad left to their native places. Local workers employed in grocery stores and small and medium industries also lost their jobs," said a government source. "Creation of employment opportunities is a big challenge before the government and the MLAs will have to come up with measures lest it may lead to large-scale unemployment," he said.

Some legislators informed the CM that the teachers and non-teaching staff in the private educational institutions were facing hardships following the closure of institutions indefinitely.

The TRS leaders in the assembly constituencies won by Congress were also in touch with KCR and are updating the CM on the current status in the Assembly segments. In addition, the Chief Minister was also getting inputs from Medical and Health, Revenue and Police department on the spread of corona and its impact on the livelihood of the common man.

Once the data is compiled, the Chief Minister is likely to hold a video conference with district collectors and come up with some special schemes.
