State sees sharpest single-day spike of 872 virus infections

Hyderabad: Telangana continues to report huge number of Covid cases every day with 872 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours pushing the overall tally so far to 8674.

GHMC accounted a single day record of 713 while Ranga Reddy reported 107 new cases. Medchal and Sangareddy reported double digit figures of 16 and 12 respectively.

Out of 15 staff members from OGH, nine got positive in Covid tests. As a result, operation theatre and labour rooms were closed for two days for disinfection.

Also, seven people have died taking the death toll to 217 until now. As part of the ramped up testing more than 3000 cases were conducted in a single day and as usual high number of infections were noticed.

Meanwhile, the stage has been set for admission of patients in TIMS, Gachibowli. Health Minister Eatala Rajender directed officials to start the hospital in a week's time. He also announced the name of Professor Vimala Thomas, who is the HoD for Social and Preventive Medicine at Gandhi hospital as TIMS head. He wanted the staff to work in three shifts there ensuring 50 percent of them are in home quarantine and rest on duty.

He also directed the senior officials to ensure 24 hours service in secondary and tertiary hospitals in wake of jump in positive cases. Reviewing 108 and 104 services operations, he called upon people facing admission or shortage of beds in hospitals or facing any Covid related problems to dial 104 and lodge complaint.
