Telangana sends over 1 lakh migrant workers to their States

Hyderabad: The State government has achieved a milestone by sending more than 1 lakh migrant workers to their native States during the lockdown period. The government paid Rs 8.5 crore to the Railways towards the payment of fare of all the migrant workers transportation to other States.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said that the major challenge before the government is getting consent of the receiving State in sending more stranded persons. The State government raised this issue with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Accordingly, the MHA said that the consent of receiving state not compulsory.

So far, 101,146 passengers were transported by 74 special trains.

The official said that the government enrolled the passengers using IT app. The selected persons were picked up. Buses were arranged to take them to the railway station. They were provided food, and water. The Railways arranged trains to transport passengers in a timely manner. The task was achieved through meticulous planning by involving all the departments.

He directed the officials to make arrangements for further movement of stranded persons by trains. The State government received appreciation from various States and passengers for making foolproof logistic arrangements for safe transportation to the passengers.
