Nizamabad: CPI (ML) New Democracy district secretary V Bhumaiah criticised the TRS government that it failed to control the onion prices, which surpassed gold rates in the State.

Along with the party leaders and activists, he staged a dharna at Nizamabad Collectorate on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Bhumaiah alleged that there is shortage of onions despite huge stocks in the market and criticised the officials and the government for creating artificial scarcity.

'The government said that it has imported onions but not making them available in the market. Farmers will not store in the warehouses (cold warehouses) before the onion crop grows,' he said. Bhumaiah suggested the government to forecast the future needs and buy huge stocks from the farmers through Mark Fed. He said this may reduce the rates. Prices of salt, pulses, cooking oil and other essential items are increasing day-by-day and the government should take steps to lower them to help the poor people across the State, he added.

The CPI (ML) New Democracy leader criticised that the government is not able to control the increasing prices. He suggested the government, which has been encouraging to grow vegetables in towns and cities, should give subsidy for growing vegetables through the agriculture sector. "We want the government to work with the agriculture department so that people can cultivate in advance of the disaster," he observed.

Bhumaiah demanded that onion prices should be controlled immediately. "The government should set up onion purchasing centres and sell to the public at a cheaper rate. Check the onion reserves and take action against the dark mafia. Increasing the essential prices should be controlled," he demanded. The leader suggested to establish a task force on essential commodities and carry out

regular checking.

CPI (ML) New Democracy leaders Salla Gangadhar, LB Ravi, Sivakumar, Krishna Goud, Saireddy, Vanamala, Satyam, B Bhummana, Mohan, Gangadhar, Saroja, Deva Swamy, T Baskar, Rajeshwar, Karthik Saikrishna and others participated in the dharna.
