Narayanpet: The upcoming municipal elections in Narayanpet municipality of Narayanpet district is expected to witness a tug-of-war between the ruling TRS and the BJP parties.

There are 23 wards in Narayanpet municipality. Recently, during the delimitation of wards, one more additional ward has been added.

With this, Narayanpet municipality has 24 wards which will go for elections this month. If one goes through the ground level assessment of the previous municipal polls held in the district headquarters, the BJP part had bagged 12 wards and emerged as the leading party in the municipal elections. In fact, Gande Anusuya of BJP party had served as chairperson of Narayanpet municipality.

However, after the TRS came to power in the State and with the visit of KT Rama Rao to the district, the political equations drastically changed in Narayanpet municipality.

The TRS succeeded to attract two councillors from the BJP, one from Congress, 3 from the TDP, one independent and increased its tally to 9. For two years, the BJP councillor had served as municipal chairperson.

As soon as her tenure was completed, she also jumped into the TRS and retained her chairperson post. With change in political equations, until recently the BJP were having 10 wards, Congress 2, TRS 9 and MIM 2.

With the nearing of municipal elections which will be conducted this month, the TRS is taking all efforts to retain the chairman post.

However, the BJP wants to fight neck and neck with the TRS and emerge

victorious. Even, the Congress is also doing its bit to move strategically and had even conducted a review meeting with local cadre.

"The TRS resorted to illegal grabbing of ward councillors by attracting them with packages. This time, we will definitely give a tough fight to both Congress and TRS," said Nagurao Namoji, senior BJP leader from Narayanpet.

The Congress leader Shiva kumar Reddy is also making plans to win majority wards.
