Pink party issues whip to MPs to attend & oppose the Bill

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti will oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which was introduced in Lok Sabha by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The legislation is intended to amend the existing law in order to grant exemptions to illegal migrants in selected categories.

The bill seeks to amend the Citizenship Act 1955 to make illegal migrants of six communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan eligible for Indian citizenship.

The TRS party has issued whip to its MPs to attend Parliament during the next two days and oppose the Bill.

The Central government would be taking up discussion during the next two days in Parliament. The BJP has absolute majority in Lok Sabha, and it would not be a big issue to pass the bill. However, in Rajya Sabha the NDA would need the support of other parties.

The stand of the TRS has become crucial with its six members in Rajya Sabha. The TRS chief and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has asked his party MPs to attend Parliament, without fail participate in discussion and vote against the Bill.

The TRS chief has asked the party MPs to strongly oppose the bill by participating in the discussion. The party leaders feel that the Bill has left out the Muslims and it would be harsh against the community.

"TRS being a secular party, if it supports the bill, it will send a wrong message to people," said a senior TRS leader.

Talking to The Hans India, TRS Parliamentary party leader K Keshava Rao said this was communal, anti-Muslim and immoral Bill. "This is anti-constitutional and communal Bill and it is dividing India.

We will be opposing the Bill because it excludes Muslims. The Bill provides citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists except for Muslims.

This is against the Article 14 of the Constitution," said Keshava Rao. He said that he would speak against the Bill during the discussion in Rajya Sabha.
