Karimnagar: The sudden unseasonal rains accompanied by strong winds and hailstorm during the last two days caused extensive damage to paddy, maize and mango crops in Karimnagar district.

The standing maize and paddy crops were flattened in several acres of land in Husnabad, Vemulawada and Sultanabad and in Siricilla and Jagitial districts.

The mango crops in various parts of united Karimnagar district were also damaged. The ripe mangoes, which were ready for plucking, were damaged due to strong winds and rains causing heavy losses to farmers.

Many villages plunged into darkness as rains accompanied with strong winds disrupted power supply. Roads were flooded with rainwater impending the movements of vehicles. The residents of low-lying areas were worst affected as rain water inundated their colonies.

Strong winds uprooted several trees in mandals. The broken tree branches caused problems to vehicular movement on the Jagitial-Nizamabad national highway. Many hording and sign boards were also damaged to due to heavy rains in many parts of the district.

Meanwhile, the district authorities cautioned the farmers and the officials at the market yards to take precautionary measures to protect agriculture produce as there was a forecast of more rainfall for the next two days.
