Wanaparthy: In a raid conducted on NSL Krishnaveni sugar factory at Appala village in Kottakota mandal and ABD liquor factory at Srirangapur village of Pebbair mandal on Wednesday, the Vigilance and Enforcement officials have seized 142 quintals of PDS rice, 80 bags of urea, 44 bags of DAP, which were stocked illegally on the premises of the factories.

According to Assistant Station Officer (ASO) Rajender, who headed the Vigilance and Enforcement team from Hyderabad, said that these factories which were involved in the manufacture of liquor were allegedly mixing urea as an ingredient to manufacture adultered liquor.

"During our raids, we found that NSL Krishnaveni Sugar Factory apart from manufacturing sugar was also involved in the manufacture of liquor from the sugarcane molasses. However, when we checked the stocked items on its premises, we were surprised to find large stocks of urea stored illegally in the factory. We have seized 66 bags of urea from the factory," informed Rajender.

In another case, the Vigilance officials, who also raided the ABD Liquor factory at Pebbair mandal, found 142 quintals of PDS rice stocked illegally in 240 bags on its premises. "Based on a tip off, we raided the ABD liquor factory and seized 142 quintals of PDS rice and 44 bags of DAP and 14 bags of urea stocked illegally. As these factories are alleged to have been using urea in the making of liquor, we have seized the material from their possession and started further enquiry," said ASO Rajender. However, on the other hand, the authorities of two factories stated that they have stocked the urea to use it in sugarcane cultivation in 100 acres and not for manufacturing liquor.

The Vigilance officials shifted the seized urea, DAP and 240 quintals of PDS rice to Kottakota Agriculture office and informed the agriculture officials to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter and file cases against persons responsible for illegal stocking of urea, DAP and PDS rice in the liquor and sugar manufacturing factories.

The Vigilance team was accompanied by Sheik Munna, Agriculture Officer of Kottakota mandal. "The factories which are given permission to manufacture sugar and liquor cannot stock unrelated items like urea, DAP and illegally procured PDS rice. We will study the case in detail and based on the evidence, we will file a case against these factories for violating of industrial rules and regulations," said Sheik Munna.
