Hyderabad: State Planning Board Vice-Chairman and TRS leader B Vinod Kumar on Saturday said that there is no role of State governments in implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Vinod was speaking at second conference of All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO) here on Saturday.

However, Vinod Kumar said that the Centre has brought CAA against the spirit of Indian Constitution and this takes away the fundamental rights of the citizens.

Vinod said that the Centre had amended the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) deliberately and not because of the economic slowdown as claimed by others.

"CAA is totally against spirit of Constitution and with political ill-intentions. As per CAA, Muslims of neighbouring countries cannot get citizenship and this is against secularism," said Vinod.

The comments of the five chief ministers that they will not implement the CAA in their States were just political comments.

He was responding to the demand of the CPM Telangana State Secretary T Veerabhadram that Vinod should make statement that the CAA will not be implemented in Telangana.

Granting citizenship is totally under the purview of the Centre and there is nothing in the hands of the States, he added.
