Warangal East to witness spurt of development activities soon
The State government has given green signal to initiate development works in the city with an estimated cost of `52.69 crore. The works will be grounded in a couple of days, says Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narender
Warangal: Finally, there seems to be some solace for those living in the Warangal East constituency which remained neglected for a long time.
With a better part of the developmental activity concentrated in Hanamkonda, which comes under Warangal West Constituency, the people in the East constituency are of the opinion that they are a neglected lot. Over the years, especially since the effect of the delimitation of constituencies in 2009, the residents of the East minced no words to point out the discrimination meted out to their region on the development front.
Even though Warangal represents tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet in the broader sense, development in this part of the city (in East constituency) is discouraging. The state of the roads, drainages and other amenities in the Eastern part of the city is appalling, this despite Warangal was brought under the Smart City Mission, a Central government's programme aimed at urban renewal and retrofitting.
Against this backdrop, the people in the East have been demanding separation of Old City, predominantly Warangal, from Hanamkonda and Kazipet. Their demand was to create Warangal and Hanamkonda districts instead of existing Urban and Rural districts. Currently, the better part of the East city is in the Warangal Rural district.
Speaking to The Hans India, Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narender said: "the East constituency didn't witness development as much as one would have desired, however, wait for the next few months. We will change the face of East constituency." He said that the State government has given green signal to initiate development works in the city with an estimated cost of Rs 52.69 crore. The works will be grounded in a couple of days, he added.
The works in the pipeline are… smart road package-1 includes segregated cycle track, pedestrian crossing, landscaping, IPT stand, signages and markings, improvement to stormwater network, intersection improvements decorative lighting, streetscape, street art, water ATM, portable toilets, footpaths, and VMS. This apart, smart roads to the extent of 8.68 km in various locations - Venkatrama Theatre junction, Head Post Office junction, railway station, Pochamma Maidan, Labour Colony and Warangal Chowrastha are also to come up.
"These development works to ensure the city would get a facelift and most importantly rid the people of the woes they are facing. Warangal East has remained one of the backward areas in the city. Blaming the legislators who represented Warangal East in the past, Narender said that the East constituency would be developed on par with the best with the support of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao.
