Warangal : TRS likely to field Pochampally
With the Election Commission (EC) giving green signal to hold elections to Legislative Council for Warangal Local Authorities’ constituency, one name that makes the cut from the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, who is widely identified with his native village - Varikole Srinivas Reddy - in political circles.
Warangal: With the Election Commission (EC) giving green signal to hold elections to Legislative Council for Warangal Local Authorities' constituency, one name that makes the cut from the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, who is widely identified with his native village - Varikole Srinivas Reddy - in political circles.
With the Council seat under Warangal Local Authorities' Constituency has been vacant since the resignation of Konda Muralidhar Rao in December last year, the EC on Tuesday issued notification for the by-poll. It may be mentioned here that following a rift with the leadership Konda couple – Muralidhar Rao and Surekha - quit the TRS and joined the Congress before the elections to the Assembly.
The soft-spoken Reddy, who is said to be a close associate of TRS working president KT Rama Rao, has been with the TRS since its inception. Notwithstanding his active participation in Telangana Movement and party affairs, Reddy has always maintained a low profile. On the surface he looks like calm and quiet but his role in the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in which TRS put up a sterling performance was notable.
The 43-year-old Reddy, who hails from Varikole village under Nadikuda mandal, is one of the party's most trusted lieutenants. Reddy's proximity with the elected representatives in the erstwhile Warangal district is expected to invite no opposition within the party. Due to Reddy's efforts, Varikole has witnessed a tremendous growth and regarded as a model village. It's one of those rare villages that supports the TRS 100 per cent.
When asked about his candidature for the Council seat, Pochampally Srinivas Reddy told The Hans India: "It's too early to say anything at this point of time. The TRS leadership will take a decision in this regard. As a loyal party worker, I will obey orders of the leadership."
"Reddy is an affable person and his candidature is welcomed by one and all gleefully," former SAAP
Director Rajanala Srihari said. It's for sure that all TRS leaders would strive hard for the election of Reddy to the Council unanimously. Meanwhile, several TRS
leaders expressed happiness over Reddy's candidature even though the leadership is yet to ratify to field him in the election.
On the other hand, the Congress and other parties are yet to decide on fielding their candidates.
Meanwhile, the last date for filing nominations is May 14. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on May 15, and the last date for withdrawal is May 17. The polling will be held on May 31 and the counting on June 3. It's learnt that the outgoing ZPTCs and MPTCs whose term is to end on July 5 are eligible to cast their votes.
